5 Years, My Love No hot tubeth have we installed nor purchased But we have basked in many warm and wondrous places Not the least being the cocoon of our bed In cold months, with its' own boiler (a hot water bottle tucked between feet) Like taffy we pull from one another At times attached only by a solitary string Vulnerable, until tears and anger yank us back Rejoined and thickened, even Sweet and sticky, never-ending And while I crawl out on thin limbs Alone and asking for breakage, Willing my spirit and good fortune To fall and shatter on cement or stone Still I feel the promise of you, and tiptoe back And my pride groweth, gloweth My best efforts are here The hardest work, (humility) And the easiest to stand by Five years, my love
